Title: People Management - The Key to becoming a good manager
Author: Narihiko Uemura
Honestly, I have passionate to read this book so much, due to the author gave me with his autograph that's inspired me to be like what he wrote that word for me "To be a Great Leader"
About This book, even I used to read some articles & some chapters from his personal blog before, BUT I have to say that once repeat reading those articles once again, I got another perspective when I imagine to act like a good leader...not a manager...
Interesting right? below is the memorable article from this book which I really believe that you will gain an invaluable knowledge from big boss experience.
[Leadership] Why The Shogun (General) sat down the back of warriors and gave only instructions (P.41)? Naturally, Shogun is supposed to be the strongest, why didn't he fight?
Because, Boss explained that the difference between manager & leader is...a manager manages the organization efficiently, while leader inspires and motivates staffs to lead to team. Hence, the great leader should act the musical conductor who control each musician performs their best performance.
[Strategic Rotation- P.70] The young guy who are in a small organization, their responsibility is bigger than the guy in the headquarter, then there is high possibility would be developed better, BUT if that young guy in the branch insist to stay the same position for many years...young guy will walk into the trap called "The Comfort Zone" that will block him to develop & improve his capability.
[The Stonecutter - Peter Drucker] What Type of Stone Cutters are you (P.73)?The Successful leader should have a Positive Attitude to his work, able to see the bigger picture / bigger goal. Hence, from this story inspires me to CHANGE MY MIND SET from focusing only on my expertise, but try to view / understand a bigger picture / goal of the whole mission.
And the last sentence of afterword that is so inspired !!
Normally one of the staff will have around ten bosses in their entire company life. some are good & others are not so goods. Which one do you prefer to be - good or bad boss?
Frankly, I can't say what kind of boss I will be, but at least, I have a great leader / mentor who gave me this book as the my role model...
Taking this opportunity I will like to to say (of course, action is louder than Words) that...
I will continuously develop myself to become "The Great Leader" as promised with you... Boss
